The Brahmanbaria region was part of a town called Samatat in ancient Bengal. The first and temporary capital of Isa Khan was at Sarail in Brahmanbaria. Sarail Pargana was included in Mymensingh district in 1830 AD. With the establishment of its headquarters at Nasirnagar in 1860 AD, it became a sub-division under the district of Tripura. On 22 July 1871, the headquarters of the subdivision was shifted to Brahmanbaria. In 1984, it got the status of Brahmanbaria district. Brahmanbaria consists of 7 upazilas. The upazilas are: Brahmanbaria Sadar, Akhaura, Bancharampur, Kasba, Nabinagar, Nasirnagar, Sarail and Ashuganj.
