Baliadangi is an upazila in Thakurgaon district in the Rangpur division. it is a border upazila, north of the Indian state of West Bengal. Baliadangi Thana was established in 1808 AD. According to the common legend, Baliadangi is associated with the name Bali, Baliadangi means Balimayodanga. The area was sandy due to the currents of Tiranai, Nagar and Kulik rivers. A landfill is created here when sand falls. As a result, the name of the area is Baliadangi. Note that the word danga means the high ground of the river bank. In the local vernacular, danga is sometimes pronounced as dangi when it is associated with the word kona. The three-domed Shahi Jame Mosque built during the reign of Emperor Shah Alam, the three-domed Fatehpur Mosque built during the Mughal period and the Shiva temple at Harinmari Hat are ancient monuments of Baliadangi Upazila.
