Shahjadpur is an ancient port built on the banks of the Hurasagar river. In 1813 the area gained the status of a police station. The area was named Shahjadpur after Shah Makhdoom Hazrat Makhdum Shah Daula who came from Yemen. It is said that Prince Makhdum Shah Doula came to live here from the Arabs in distant Yemen and started preaching Islam. His preaching was not well received by the Hindus. He died in a battle with the rival Hindus. It is said that the area was named Shahjadapur after him. The name Shahjadpur changed its name to Shahjadpur.
